          Diplomas

This section briefly outlines the national introduction of Diplomas, with links to key websites, and provides a regional overview and links to Diploma delivery details in each of the region’s 14-19 Partnership areas.

          The National Picture

From September 2008, new Diplomas for 14-19 year-olds will be introduced, as part of the programme of reforms set out in the 14-19 Education and Skills White Paper.

The Diploma will be available in 17 lines of learning, allowing young people to gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed by a number of occupational sectors of the economy.

Diplomas will provide flexibility and choice for all learners through a unique mix of traditional and work-relevant learning. They have been developed in collaboration with employers to ensure their relevance, and are valued by employers and higher education institutions, as their combination of essential skills relevant experience and applied learning will provide an excellent grounding for careers and for further learning.

The DCSF website provides a range of Frequently Asked Questions about Diplomas at DCSF Diploma FAQs

DCSF has also established a Diploma Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) support programme, to support practitioners delivering the Diploma from 2009.
