The attached Ofsted review of 14-19 education report evaluates the progress being made in implementing 14–19 reforms, based on visits to 16 local authority areas from April 2007 to March 2008.
Introduction to the 14-19 Commission
The government, regional partners, local authorities and individual schools, colleges and independent training providers are working hard to transform learning for 14-19 year olds by:
- increasing the range of qualifications that young people can achieve;
- designing new qualifications and ways of learning for young people; and
- working through local partnerships to deliver on the ground.
Further details of the Government’s 14-19 reform programme can be found on the website of the Department for Children Schools and Families.
The system is being developed to meet the needs of every young person: making sure that they are able to continue learning and achieve their goals, either in employment or at school, college or with a training provider until they are 19. It involves employers helping to design new qualifications – 14-19 diplomas – that will sit alongside GCSEs, A-levels, Apprenticeships and the Foundation Learning Tier, providing young people with a range of choices for their learning.
The North East 14-19 Commission brings together stakeholders from across the region to work together to deliver the reforms and ensure that all young people in the region are able to fulfill their potential.
The 14-19 Commission has developed a 14-19 portal to provide an authoritative web-based source of information and effective means of communication for those involved in 14-19 issues in the North East.
