Engaging Young People

The 14-19 Commission believes it is essential that young people are able to inform and influence the development and delivery of the 14-19 agenda. We firmly believe that young people, our key customers, should have the opportunity to directly input to our work and share with us their experiences, needs and aspirations.

To achieve this we are working with a Youth Engagement Board comprising young people from across the region. The Board is supported by two youth facilitators and is very much a Board of and for young people.

The remit of the Youth Board is to:

  • Identify shared goals and priorities to address skills, participation and raising aspirations for young people 14-19 and propose activity to address these.
  • Provide a young people's perspective on the work of the Commission.
  • Act as a young people's voice to influence regional activity commissioned by the 14-19 Commission.
  • Identify factors which both encourage and create barriers to young people achieving their aspirations, and propose activity to address these.
  • Advise the 14-19 Commission on ways to effectively engage a wide cross section of young people in the region.
