The Analysis of 14-19 Education Engagement Activity is based on the views reflected by 132 employers and 71 education organisations during the research study which took place during 2008.
In the case of the employer group, the sample included a good mix of businesses from all key employment sectors with a representative geographic spread.
The education organisations were represented by 34 schools, 20 independent training providers, 11 sixth form colleges and five universities.
The full research report has been published and is available to download at http://www.skillsnortheast.co.uk/page/fourteennineteen/missionrole/subgroups/employerengagement.cfm and should be of interest for employers and education organisations wishing to understand the current strengths, opportunities and challenges in the region around employer involvement in 14-19 education and training.
In particular, it emerged from the research that there are generally four different types of employer, each displaying differing characteristics and attitudes towards 14-19 education and training as well as differing levels of engagement.
These employer ‘types’ are illustrated by case studies.
A table detailing challenges, opportunities and types of support should make it easier to identify how you might become involved in 14-19 education and training, if this is something you are thinking of doing.
