The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) was established by the Skills Funding Agency in April 2009 and works closely with colleges and training providers to deliver Apprenticeships.
This involves collaborating with key stakeholders including the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), Connexions, Next Step, local authorities and directly with employers.
NAS is driving forward the Government’s ambition for a renaissance in Apprenticeships and aims to bring a significant growth in the number of employers offering Apprenticeships, providing sufficient opportunities to enable one in every five young people to take up an Apprenticeship place.
One part of this renaissance is to help increase the numbers of people progressing from Apprenticeships into higher education, where desired. Some Apprenticeships already attract UCAS points and NAS is working with UCAS to extend this across the board.
Higher Apprenticeship programmes are available in a wide range of sectors, enabling apprentices to study for a foundation degree, learn valuable new skills and earn a living at the same time.
