Welcome to the North East 14-19 Commission
The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) sets out a powerful vision:
‘The North East will be a region where present and future generations have a high quality of life. It will be a vibrant, self reliant, ambitious and outwards looking region featuring a dynamic economy, a healthy environment and a distinctive culture. Everyone will have the opportunity to realise their full potential’.
This is possibly the greatest challenge we face in achieving this vision is inspiring our young people and providing the practical steps which will enable them to become active participants in a re-vitalised North East and citizens in a global economy.
The ongoing reforms to 14-19 provision provide immense opportunities; they also provide immense challenges. The 14-19 Commission brings together stakeholders from across the region to work together to seize these opportunities and tackle the challenges we face in ensuring that all young people in the region are able to fulfil their potential.
To achieve the ambitions set out in the RES and Every Child Matters, we must ensure that our 14-19 provision is of the highest quality, contributes to improving aspiration and attainment, engages employers, and above all enables young people to achieve their ambitions.
