UK Commission for Employment and Skills

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UK CES), launched in April 2008, aims to raise UK prosperity and opportunity by improving employment and skills.  Its ambition is to benefit employers, individuals and government by advising how improved employment and skills systems can help the UK become a world-class leader in productivity and employment and in having a fair and inclusive society.

The UK CES will annually assess progress towards making the UK a world-class leader in employment and skills by 2020.  In forming this advice, the Commission will monitor and challenge the performance of parts of the employment and skills system, and recommend systematic improvements in policy and delivery, suggest further innovations, and advise how employment and skills services can deliver an integrated service for employers and individuals.

In October 2008 the Commission launched their proposals to simplify the skills system for employers.  The Simplification of Skills in England plan proposes ways in which the interface between employers and publicly funded skills can improve, and how the system can be made more responsive to the needs of individual employers.  A summary of the report is attached below.
